I accept to say....this was a little more steps than normal, merely soooo worth the endeavor!!! Discussion of caution though: exist careful with the cayenne pepper if yous do not like it too spicy. Otherwise go for it!!! Instead of oregano which I did non have on mitt, I threw in some sage, rosemary and thyme (all fresh) and WOW! it was what took this recipe to the adjacent level! The herbs were crunchy and I put them on top of the potatoes. Non but was it delicious but added to the presentation. Thanks Chef John for this wonderful recipe which I will exist fixing a lot!

I enjoyed it just the family unit did not. To be fair they have a valid point, the pepper overpowered the lemon and other seasonings. Too spice for them, should be chosen peppery lemon potatoes. Too took longer than an hour to soak upwards all of the liquid.

I substituted craven base (I highly recommend Better than Bouillon brand) nearly i 1/2 tsp mixed into 3/four cup water with one/4 cup lemon juice in place of the lemon zest. I also used "Slap your mama" cajun seasoning table salt in place of the common salt and peppers. This volition become function of my regular rotation - first-class and not labor intensive, just recollect to ask Alexa to remind you lot to flip them at the appropriate times.

I love Chef John'due south recipes and usually they are rock solid tasty dishes, but this one only didn't evangelize for me. Perhaps I did something incorrect. In that location was some initial hesitation because the video does not instruct on how long to roast the potatoes for the final homestretch. My potatoes were much smaller than his and they were in for at least 30 minutes and still weren't crispy similar his (still quite a flake of olive oil pooled on the bottom). So afterward thirty minutes, I turned on the broiler for 7-8 minutes and got a footling well-baked, only basically wrecked my pan by called-for on the remnants at the bottom. So I finally got a little crisp, but upon eating them, they just didn't have that much season. I used enough of lemon zest and juice and a lot of pepper, simply the dish was just bland. This recipe, especially given the corporeality of work involved, just isn't one I'd apply again. I'd prefer a normal baked potato.

Excellent basic recipe. I fabricated it once equally written and have since varied the spices to adapt it to my tastes. Equally noted the left overs make great pan chips.
01/14/2019
I loved them. MY girlfriend not so much. I plant them to be just what the recipe said it would be. Crunchy outside and hot soft potato within. I volition make again.
12/28/2018
I love how the lemon flavor actually infuses itself inside the potatoes, similar the lemon potatoes I once had at a Greek eating place. It does take longer than stated for the broth to be captivated. I had nearly two cups of broth to use, and so I poured information technology all on for function of the cooking fourth dimension. Then I drained off the extra lemon/broth and so that the rest could exist absorbed. When serving, I drizzled information technology dorsum on the potatoes instead of the oil suggested. Delicious.
06/03/2019
I've fabricated these a couple of times now and they are incredible! I use dry oregano instead of fresh and it comes out just fine. The just matter that is off is the cooking time. For me they unremarkably need an actress x or 15 mins to blot all the liquid.
01/15/2019
Neat dish! Made no changes except used just 2 very big potatoes as at that place were four of us for dinner. The liquid wasn't quite all used upwards at the terminate, then would either reduce the amount slightly or do all the potatoes, just they were notwithstanding fabulous. Worth the extra work.
10/17/2019
Outstanding! Family loved it. I used ane lemon. But would utilize 2 next fourth dimension. Caution on the cayenne pepper. If y'all don't similar spicy need to forgo. Chopped upwardly the leftovers the next day and sautéed in some olive oil for a overnice breakfast potato.
01/16/2019
I didn't make any changes except that I used stale oregano instead of the fresh oregano sprigs. I thought they really were not bad, but not worth the effort to brand them.
04/11/2019
I was not a fan of this ane. I think it's the only Chef John recipe I haven't liked. Showtime, the potatoes took an hour and xl to cook until they were done (we do live at 6,300 feet peak, so I'm certain that had something to do with it). So subsequently all that waiting, the flavor was just okay. I'm thinking if I decide to attempt information technology again, I'll cube the potatoes to cut baking time.
06/19/2019
Another dandy one from Chef John. Fabricated this for my wife. She loved information technology!
01/xi/2019
Excellent and very tasty. Well worth the time.

It turned out pretty well. I did roast the potatoes quite a chip longer than recommended considering they hadn't absorbed all the liquid at the end of the recommended fourth dimension. Also they were style too hot for my sense of taste so if I make them once more, I won't employ cayenne pepper.
10/30/2018
Awesome!!! I added a bit more lemon and left out the hot stuff. However wonderful side dish!!!
10/29/2018
will make again only everyone thought they were mode to lemony and too strong flavored... other than that I will try once more and only practice less.. no dubiousness a Preference thing...
10/01/2018
I followed the recipe as written, except one of my four potatoes was rotten, then I had less potato. Even so, it took well over an hr for the potatoes to soak up the juice. They concluded up pretty bland. If I attempt again, I will reduce the broth, keep the lemon corporeality intact.
01/17/2020
I used vegetable broth instead of chicken broth (vegans, here). While mine tasted delicious, they didn't brown and crisp similar Chef John's. I will definitely try them again. Great season.
01/08/2019
Very adept. I added some fresh rosemary and parsley. I will make these again!
02/13/2019
Liquid did not all evaporate, I did not get the crispy exterior. Certain it is my oven. Beside that, the flavor of the tators was fabled. I volition definitely endeavor this recipe again.
11/20/2019
Best potatoes I have ever eaten. Put in the work, and go amazing results. I'thou never going back to regular roasted potatoes once again
04/22/2019
The extra time it took to make these potatoes , was so worth information technology .Tasted corking ,my guests raved about them .
03/15/2020
I have the potatoes in right now had to put information technology back in the potatoes are soft but so much liquid still. I didn't have any more lemons so used canteen lemon. Just removed them and still liquid merely they are soft so I will leave it as is. I also love chef John and then volition try another recipe he may take on chicken. Will let you know how that comes out. This recipe takes toooo long when you need the oven to cook other foods.
09/03/2019
Followed to a T - Awesome!
01/30/2019
Fabricated co-ordinate to recipe except that I used dried oregano instead of the fresh oregano sprigs. I thought they were okay but naught special and won't brand again. I similar Chef John's recipes not this 1 peculiarly.
07/14/2020
Not a fan of cayenne pepper then used hys seasoning salt instead and a little extra lemon juice. Very delicious and something different for a side. Thanks Chef John
07/nineteen/2020
My potatoes looked exactly like Chef John's. I made them for a dinner guest who loves potatoes-- and he loved these! They were flossy inside with a nice crust on the outside, merely equally Chef John said they would. While I liked them, I found them to be a bit strong on the lemon side then adjacent time I'll cut back on the lemon. I used the leftover potatoes the next twenty-four hour period for a irish potato salad-- delicious! I just added mayo, celery, and celery seed. The potatoes had all of the needed seasoning and that chip of lemon in the original dish was a squeamish add-on to a dainty cold potato salad.
09/22/2020
Followed this recipe precisely until later on the second bake. My potatoes weren't baking simply simmering in the juice. I ended up draining off most of the juice in guild to have a baked rather than boiled potato. To achieve the same results as shown, the would probably accept been in the oven another 60 minutes. Very disappointing
12/24/2021
Astonishing!
04/22/2022
Okay so this was a really different recipe. I accept some tips for next time, 1st you wanna stab the potatoes a agglomeration with a pocketknife, and 2nd, only add together little bits of the liquid mixture at a time making sure the liquid is filled upward a little to a higher place the base of the potatoes, because dumping it all in at in one case was not working correct. These turned out very adept despite me having do dump some liquid out and adding back gradually. Dont be afraid to get heavy on the lemon juice over the goop, because it will make this recipe pop! Its a great idea, i just think the recipe could have been written a little better, regardless tho, thanks for sharing!
12/20/2021
very easy and ran well with mac north cheese and homemade nuggies
08/01/2020
In that location must be some magic in the steps and the timing because these are amazing. Read all the steps and brand sure you start early plenty just definitely endeavor them. I tin can't seem to get mine to get a little crust merely I'one thousand cooking mine in a braiser merely they are notwithstanding fabulous. I am new to Chef John's recipes but i make a big deal out of Saturday and Sun night dinner and would love for all of them to turn out this good. I'll be taking a look at his other recipes for sure!
08/02/2019
They were fantabulous
09/xviii/2020
Total failure, could non believe it as I am a real fan of Chef John. Followed recipe precisely, but potatoes were not close to washed at 55min at 400F and even with additional 15+ at 450+, still parts were non done. And the washed parts were no style special/soft as described. Potatoes were fresh, oven is new and authentic. Something is just way off here!
01/27/2021
Delicious!
03/22/2021
I followed the recipe exactly. After the full bike of turning over the potatoes, they notwithstanding needed more fourth dimension in the oven - I gave them another ane/2 hour per side to soak upwardly the remaining liquid. Not sure what the issue was as my oven is usually pretty accurate for temperature/time. Peradventure I should have cut back on the liquid. The outsides did not well-baked up much, just the potatoes did proceeds a great flavour from the infusion of broth, lemon, oregano (and the rosemary I added in addition). They also had the creamy texture mentioned in the recipe. I may try putting some shredded sharp cheddar on the next batch and giving them a few minutes under the broiler to finish them. These get a 4 out of v from me for flavour, though.
05/23/2021
I don't know if I did something incorrect, just these were absolutely terrible.
10/23/2020
I have made this at to the lowest degree a dozen times. I double the lemon based on my ain gustation. I found that aureate potatoes work meliorate than russet. They go creamier merely are not quite equally hard on the outside. I must say, this would exist on my last meal list if I had one.....superb chef John.
12/19/2019
The potatoes were also dry
01/10/2019
My son enjoyed these.
05/26/2020
Amazing! I spend picayune time in kitchen as I don't like to cook. This was a little time consuming only sooo worth it! Followed directions exactly and used cast iron dutch oven and these were so proficient that husband fabricated me hope to make again! That is success!
03/23/2020
These potatoes were delicious and elementary to do. Watch the video as it will really help in preparing these potatoes. I made them exactly as the recipe states merely I simply used 1 spud every bit it was just for two of us. Changed the servings on the recipe and used the measurements it came up with and information technology was perfect. I used fresh rosemary and thyme as that is what I had in the fridge. Lovely flavour and texture!
05/17/2020
This was a pretty skillful recipe. Did not alter in any way. You tin can definitely taste the lemon and pepper in the flavoring. Definitely will brand again!
04/fifteen/2019
Turned out really well. Sprinkled with lemon pepper. Was afraid to use too much cayenne only volition use more than next fourth dimension. Didn't take a lemon so added a flake of lemon juice to goop but will utilize an actual lemon next time. Didn't demand whole corporeality of goop either.
05/19/2020
It was adept. We made it exactly by the recipe. If I made it again, I'd seriously cutting downward on the salt and get easier on the cayenne pepper every bit it overpowers the lemon.
01/09/2020
Skillful! I did leave out the cayenne pepper for my heat averse fam.
06/03/2020
Bursting with flavor!
08/04/2020
I made this dish for my swain and myself and we both really similar it and will make once again. The only alter I would brand is next time I will pierce the potato with a fork a few times after I accept sliced it. I didn't actually experience like any of that flavour soaked in.
05/04/2020
Made this recipe exactly. And then very good. Made homefries with leftovers. The all-time homefries e'er. This is a definite keeper.
04/22/2019
These were really great!
12/27/2019
These are a little "fussy" but worth it. My husband asks for them frequently.
01/30/2021
A bit greasy
04/20/2021
Chef John is THE Man, hands down! Simply . . . I may take upped him a footling bit on this one. I inverse none of the ingredients (OK, then I added some fresh rosemary and thyme twigs - my preference!), but with one exception. I did it ALL in my trusty old electric frying pan. You know, that old relic we all have sitting in the bottom shelf of the cupboard. Set it on 400 degrees, put the hat on, followed each footstep and timing exactly, and never used the oven. Turned out great . . . and was so elementary. A delicious recipe. Cheers over again, Chef John.
11/02/2020
If you don't give this v stars you either don't like lemon, don't like pepper, or made it wrong. And I live at a high distance so the reviewer that thought that was the problem was non correct. Solutions? Maybe y'all need to turn your oven up, every bit all ovens are different with their temps. And don't brand lemon pepper potatoes if you don't like lemon...or pepper, lol!
03/26/2020
This was crawly!!! All I had during this self isolation period was the tiny picayune potatoes (which I love to roast). It withal turned out amazing. No overpowering lemon or pepper and then the buttery flavor of the potatoes came through. . My fiancé absolutely loved it!!
04/22/2020
Very lemony. Took longer to bake all of the liquid away but very tasty.
05/22/2020
Bland, just I am not a fan of potatoes. Will non make again.
ten/21/2019
Made exactly as called for in recipe. Nice change up from just baked potato. Will arrive once more
04/01/2019
lots of changes. will brand again in a heart beat. added parsley " fresh", more fresh lemon juice and zest than called for, and a Chile, paprika, garlic mix that I had. besides used fingerling potatoes.
04/26/2020
Loved this very much! Whatever was left over from dinner we ate for breakfast :) The 2d time I fabricated them I added MORE lemon and pepper, likewise as some sweet paprika. It's a chip fiddly with all the turning, simply well worthh it!
02/07/2021
Well worth the time information technology takes! Outstanding flavor and texture!
